I typically work with a range of business and non-profit stakeholders including: founders, board members, employees, volunteers, donors, consultants, lenders, and elected officials. Here is a partial list of current and recent clients:
Massachusetts Woodlands Cooperative (MWC) MWC is an 8-year old forest landowner cooperative that maintains the environment and character of Massachusetts through the protection, enhancement and careful economic development of the region's forests. Since May 2008 I have worked with the board and staff to conduct a business feasibility and sustainability analysis, provided advice during an executive transition, and assisted the board of directors with an organizational restructure and procurement of a variety of services.
Massachusetts Association of CDCs (MACDC) MACDC is the policy and capacity building arm of over 60 CDCs operating throughout the Commonwealth. From October 2005 through June 2007 I served as the project coordinator during the formation phase of the Western MA Community Development Collaborative (WMCDC), a cooperative effort of eleven CDCs representing 105 cities and towns in four Counties. I guided the participants through a strategic planning process that culminated in a two-year action plan to build the financial and popular capacity of participating CDCs and an agreement to launch a collaborative communications program with shared staffing. I also raised over $95,000 to support the project.
Vermont Food Education Every Day (FEED) Vermont FEED is a collaborative project of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont, Food Works, and Shelburne Farms. Since 2000, the FEED partners have been connecting five components: classroom, community, farms, school gardens, and the cafeteria with a mission to improve children's connection to their health, the food they eat, and their communities. Between October 2005 and March 2006 I facilitated an organizational assessment and evaluation process and provided recommendations on operating structures, policies, and procedures.
Media Education Foundation (MEF) MEF is a national non-profit producer and distributor of educational programs and award-winning films that inspire people to examine the media and challenge its direct impact on their lives and the world around them. From 2001 through 2003, I served as Owner's Agent to develop, finance, acquire, and renovate an historic firehouse building for reuse as a video production facility, administrative offices and retail space. I also facilitated an organizational development and strategic business planning process. My scope of work included: conducting a staff and board assessment; creating job descriptions, revising personnel policies, drafting a performance evaluation system; providing assistance with marketing and development activities; and advising key management on personnel, financing and operating issues.
Rural Development Inc. (RDI) RDI is a private non-profit affordable housing development organization working under the umbrella of the Franklin County Regional Housing Authority to provide affordable housing to low-income people in a large rural region of Western MA. Between 2002 and 2006 I periodically assisted staff with the preparation and submission of a variety of grant applications and funding proposals for projects ranging from $25,000 - $750,000. I also assisted with the administration of a special project funded by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to demonstrate the feasibility of installing photovoltaic energy systems on single-family homes.
